Vastra Dhauti:
Vastra is the Sanskrit word for cloth.
Vastra Dhauti is the most commonly known practice of Dhauti and so even people unfamiliar with yoga might know the practice of swallowing a cloth.
How to perform Vastra Dhauti
Take a very soft cloth made of pure cotton with a width of six or seven centimeters and a length of six meters. One usually uses muslin because it is not coloured, very fine, not embroidered and not printed upon.
Take two or two and a half glasses of warm water in a bowl and add half a teaspoon of salt into it. Soak the cloth in this water until it is fully wet.
This technique should only be done with empty stomach. Sit in Utkatasana or Malasana with a glass of drinking water next to you. Take a gulp of water to wet your throat and esophagus. Now take one end of the cloth, put it into your mouth and slowly start swallowing it. Whenever you feel difficulty, take a sip of water and continue. On the first day, only put the cloth about twenty centimeters down. The next day you can put it a bit further and so on until one day you can swallow the complete cloth except for half a meter which you need to keep out in able to pull it back out later.
For the complete practice of this Kriya, get up then, bend forward and practice Nauli. Come back up again and slowly pull out the cloth.
Sterilize the cloth after using it so that you can reuse it next time.
Benefits of Vastra Dhauti:
The stomach is a very important part of the body as all input of food and beverages reaches there and is further processed there to finally reach our cells in the form of energy and life force. If our stomach is not clean, our complete system feels the consequences such as building of gas, bile, nausea, acidity, bad breath and bad-smelling sweat. There are many more such problems and for all of them, Vastra Dhauti is considered as a very good practice. It keeps the stomach clean and thus the system healthy.
With this practice, mucus is cleaned from the esophagus and stomach and thus Kapha related problems can be relieved.
By the cleansing of the stomach, toxins which were stuck there and which spread their unhealthy effects across the body get cleaned which can relieve skin disorders and acne.
Of course this cleansing of the stomach also helps the rest of the digestive system as well as other organs such as the liver and spleen.
With regular practice you may also experience that your breathing gets lighter and your respiratory system gets relief. Asthma attacks can get less.
With the cleansing of the stomach you actively cleanse one of the organs that the Manipoor Chakra is responsible for. You help putting the digestive fire back on and bringing the body back to its natural functions.
Special Tips
Relax. This is one of the most important points of this exercise. Don’t hesitate and don’t think of Vastra Dhauti as something dirty or disgusting. It is cleansing and helps you.
Relaxing will thus reduce the urge to vomit. The more practice you have, the easier it will be.
If the cloth seems to get stuck when taking it out, relax and drink a bit water. This will make the cloth smoother and easier to come out.
Advice for Beginners
Please only try this technique under guidance and supervision of an experienced yoga teacher.
Start including the Nauli only when you have mastered the taking in and out of the cloth smoothly.

Yoga nidra, a Sanskrit term meaning "yogic sleep" is a deep relaxation technique and a form of meditation.
Also called "psychic sleep," yoga nidra is a state between sleeping and waking. The body is completely relaxed and the practitioner turns the awareness inward by listening to a set of instructions; much like a guided meditation. Performing yoga nidra involves practicing pratyahara ("withdrawal of the senses"), which is the fifth limb of Ashtanga yoga.
Yoga nidra practice results in deep relaxation and expands the individual's self-awareness.
Yoga nidra was practiced by ancient sages so they could consciously watch their samskaras, or the "impressions of the mind." They could also purify their samskaras in order to come closer to liberation, or moksha.
The practice of yoga nidra not only involves pratyhara, but also requires pranayama (breathing techniques) and dharana ("concentration"), which are the fourth and sixth limbs of Ashtanga yoga.
In yoga nidra, the practitioner enters their alpha state and their focus shifts to the third eye chakra(sahasrara). It also stimulates the hormones in the pineal gland, which releases melatonin -- a horomone that reduces stress, boosts the immune system and helps prevent illness. Regular practice helps harmonize the brain hemispheres, promoting better mental performance.
Yoga nidra offers other amazing health benefits, as well, including:
Calms the mind
Relaxes and rejuvenates the body
Soothes the nervous system
Reduces fatigue
Lowers high cholesterol and blood pressure levels
Strengthens immunity
Improves quality of sleep
Treats depression
Reduces pain
Boosts concentration level
Supports brain function and boosts creativity

Sutra-Neti:
Nasal Cleansing Using a Cord, Thread-Neti or String-Neti, Sutra Neti
Insert a soft thread through the nose to the length of one hand-span so that it comes out of the mouth.
How to prepare the thread ( Traditional Method)
Cut a number of strands of the thread to about 45cm in length, so that the diameter of the strands when bundled together is about 3mm. You can increase this later according to the size of your nasal passages.
Heat some beeswax.
Hold the end of the bundle and trim it so that all the ends are even, and twist the end of the bundle.
Soak the first 12cm of the twisted end in the hot beeswax and allow it to harden into a stiff pliable cord. 5. Trim the ether end so that the total length of the cord is about 45cm. Twist about 10cm of the end and soak it in beeswax. Allow to harden.
or you can use rubber catheter.
Procedure:
Squat - tilt the head slightly back and insert the thread or catheter straight into the left nostril.
The thread should not be forced through the nose but pushed gently so that it passes slowly down into the throat.
When it reaches the back of the throat insert the first two fingers into the mouth and pull the thread out through the mouth leaving a few inches of thread hanging out of the nose.
Slowly and gently pull the thread backwards and forwards thirty to fifty times. Remove it slowly and repeat through the opposite nostril
.
Benefits
Neti relieves muscular tension of the face and nervous tics, and helps maintain facial youth and freshness.
It releases emotional tension and is beneficial in anxiety, depression, epilepsy and hysteria; it promotes a balance between the left and right nostrils, and consequently the right and left hemispheres of the brain.
This induces a state of harmony and balance throughout the entire central nervous system and the systems governing respiratory, circulatory, digestive and excretory function.
Caution
Under no circumstances should you experience pain in the practice.
If you feel any pain, it either means you are inserting the catheter too fast, or that it entered the wrong way and is stalled against the nasal wall, unless there is otherwise some other genetic obstruction.
In which case, stop immediately, withdraw and reinsert the catheter carefully in another direction until you find a clear unimpeded passage.

A handy yogic technique useful for irrigation of nasal passage and sinusoidal cavities to make it free of dirt, debris, potential disease agents (bacteria & viruses) and excess mucus. The ordinary nasal infections such as the polyp, adenoid growth, deformities of the septum and the most common of all troubles – the recurring nasal catarrh – are also all mostly preventable and could be easily avoided by a little timely care of this organ.
The amount of dust we inhale and the adulterated food and poisonous drinks we are daily swallowing, clogging throughout biophysical mechanism is unavoidable. The nasal passage accordingly suffers from dust accumulation and stuffing. Handkerchiefs cannot remove all the dust and mucus accumulated. When one sleeps on one side the refuse begins to encrust in the nare of the other side, which during the period remains blocked. The slightest variation in the usual amount of air inhaled, as a result of morbid accumulation in the nasal canal, impairs the natural freedom in breathing, and this, in turn, produces deleterious effects upon the composition and oxygen quality of blood cells and also circulation is disturbed. Thereby, causing functional disturbances in the circulatory, digestive, nervous and other systems. The cumulative effect is the lowering of the vital index.
“In all problem solving or in problem prevention, we must have strong commitment to higher goals. The Kriyas take help of natural agencies and elements and build self-reliance.”

Its shape and consistency can be changed easily by adding water.
It is cheap and easily available.
Before using, mud should be dried, powdered and sieved to separate stones, grass particles and other impurities
Mud Pack-Local Application
Keeping soaked mud in a thin, wet muslin cloth and making it into a thin flat brick depending on the size of the patient’s abdomen, apply it. The duration of the mud pack application is 20 to 30 minutes. When applied in cold weather, place a blanket over the mud pack and cover the body as well.
